Targeted for Political Oblivion in 2000: The 223 Republicans and 5 Democrats who Voted for Impeachment (this is the printer friendly version)

We warned them!

We told them pretty clearly on November 3rd that we wanted this president censured, but not impeached. They didn't listen.

Instead the House. led by Henry Hyde with his own "youthful indiscretion," has impeached President Clinton on two counts and sent the matter off to the Senate. This despite polls that indicated 60-67% of the public opposed impeachment.

The Republicans reassured one another not to worry about those polls. They said we wouldn't remember in 2000. "The attention span of Americans is, 'Which movie is coming out next month'" according to former Senator Alan Simpson. Ha! They'll find out!

Today, December 20th, the day after the impeachment vote, Clinton's approval rate is UP ten points in the CNN poll to 73---- higher than Reagan's highest mark! The approval rate of the Republicans is DOWN ten points.

That enterprising action group, moveon.org, has started a pledge movement for people to commit to send money to help defeat those who voted for impeachment. In ONE day over $5,000,000 has been pledged. (This is a moral commitment, not a legal one. They commit to indicating the races in early 2000 where your money--- which you send personally--- will be best spent.)

Join the crowd! http://www.moveon.org/pledge.htm

Amo Houghton, New York
